In September 2023, Dr. Mark Davis, the [then] President of IEEE AESS, gave two presentations in Poland as a part of the Distinguished Lecture program. On 22 September 2023, Dr. Davis presented a lecture entitled “Ultra Wide Band (UWB) Surveillance Radar.” The lecture was held at the Warsaw University of Technology, Warsaw, Poland. The topics discussed included the history of battlefield surveillance radar, UWB phased antenna arrays, UWB synthetic aperture radar (SAR) frequency allocation issues, and ground-moving target indication.

The second lecture, entitled “Foliage Penetration (FOPEN) Radar”, was given on 29 September 2023 at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Wrocław, Poland. Mark Davis covered topics including the history of FOPEN radar, FOPEN SAR, and new research in multi-mode UWB radar.

Signal Processing Symposium (SPSympo) 2023 in Karpacz, Poland

Signal Processing Symposium (SPSympo) 2023 was held in the beautiful mountainous city of Karpacz, Poland, on 26-28 September 2023. AESS was one of the technical co-sponsors of the conference. The conference is organized every two years in Poland. It focuses mainly on signal processing and related fields such as radar, acoustics, and medicine. The conference gathered about 100 participants from various countries around the world. The conference's special guests were Dr. Mark Davis, [then] AESS President, and Athina Petropulu, president of IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) President.

Microwave & Radar Week 2024 in Wrocław, Poland

On 1-4 July 2024, the 11th Microwave & Radar Week will be held in Wrocław, Poland. Wrocław is a city in the southwest of Poland. It is often called the Venice of the North due to many canals and bridges. The conference consists of two parts, MIKON and the International Radar Symposium (IRS). MIKON conference is devoted to microwave technology, whereas the IRS is focused on radar technology. More information can be found here.
