The space age began on October 4, 1957 with the launch by the Soviet Union of the world's first artificial satellite, Sputnik-1. There are now approximately 8,000 artificial satellites orbiting the earth, they supply us with applications of observation, meteorology, navigation, communications, among others.
This lecture shows the history of satellites, addressing the orbits to which they are launched, the types and classes of satellites, the subsystems, the forms of launch and their applications.
