Abstract

The pressure on the scarce electromagnetic spectrum has led to precipitated a substantial and sustained global research effort into approaches that alleviate the competition between the various services that depend on this resource. In this respect, joint radar communication and dual function radar communication systems and schemes have proliferated. These aim to bring the radar and communication function together to improve the efficiency of spectrum use through coexistence of the two functions. This topic will overview recent developments in this area, describing various approaches for embedding information in radar waveforms and addressing the impact of the information embedding on the radar (or sensing) performance. The topic will also discuss the issues of information and sensing security.
