Dr Hongbo Sun is currently a Principal Scientist and the Head of Satellite Communications & Sensing Division at the Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R), Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR), Singapore. Prior to I²R, he was with Temasek Laboratories at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, as a Senior Research Scientist and Program Manager.

He has very wide range of research experience on radar systems, signal processing, phased array system, integrated sensing and communication, and satellite communication. He has authored/co-authored one book chapter and more than 80 technical papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings.

Between 2004 and 2011, he served as the member of IEEE P1672 Working Group for drafting IEEE STD 1672 Ultrawideband Radar Definitions. He is currently the Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems and was the Associate Editor/Guest Associate Editor for Electronics Letters and IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters. Previously he had also ever served as the Chair of IEEE AESS/GRSS Joint Singapore Chapter for two terms (2016-2017 and 2022-2023), and the TPC Members / Session Chairs of numerous IEEE international conferences. He was also the recipient of the Excellent Paper Award at the RADAR 2006 conference. Since 2020, he has been appointed as the IEEE AESS Distinguished Lecturer.
