10th IEEE Tunisian Student and Young Professionals (TSYP) Congress
For more than 1000 students and young professionals, the year 2022 ended with a major highlight: the 10th IEEE Tunisian Student and Young Professionals (TSYP) Congress held together with the IEEE Young Professionals in space! The event took place in Sousse, Tunisia, from December 19 – 21, 2022 and was organized this year by IEEE ESPRIT Student Branch – Tunisia Section.
The TSYP is an initiative to bring together all Tunisian IEEE students and YP members for networking and learning about current and future scientific and technical challenges, and the topic of this year’s edition was “Aerospace”. The YP in Space aims to bring together scientists, professionals and students in the space industry from all over the world to meet at one location, to give them the chance to discuss recent topics in the space industry and space research and to get them involved in this exciting field of engineering.
With more than 1000 IEEE students and young professional members as well as many national and international guests contributing to and attending the event, it became a huge success. AESS, invited to support the event, was glad to accept the invitation and to support the dedicated students. Lorenzo Lo Monte, VP Member Services, Braham Himed, VP Conferences, and Philipp Markiton, YP Representative, attended the Congress to represent AESS, to give lectures and to promote AESS with a booth.
The congress started with a welcome from the Conference Chair Ala Chalghaf and Fedi Naimi, the IEEE ESPRIT Student Branch Chair, followed by welcome notes from Tahar Belakhdar, ESPRIT Director, Mekki Ksouri, IEEE ESPRIT SB Counselor, and Ilhem Kallel, IEEE Tunisia Section Chair. The next days were packed with lectures and workshops. Lorenzo Lo Monte presented about “History & Future of Radar & EW”, while Braham Himed, joined a panel discussion together with Paolo Gamba, Past President of GRSS, about “Intro to AESS and GRSS”. In the next lectures exciting topics such as Remote Sensing (Steven Reising, Professor at Colorado State University), Fundamentals of Machine Learning (Mourad Zerai, Professor at ESPRIT), Optimization of resources allocation within data centers (Rouaa Touihri), or Wireless Power Transmission for Space Exploration (Nuno Borges Carvalho, IEEE MTT-S President) were covered. The students presented also their own ideas and solutions about space challenges in pitch events, the best one to be awarded in the closing ceremony. The students also built booths in the exhibition hall to present their IEEE student branch. The hall was crowded with students, and Braham, Lorenzo and Philipp took care of the AESS exhibition stand, which was enormously attended with students eager to learn about IEEE, AESS, and the other student branches.
The organizing committee of the 10th TSYP edition spent lots of time and hard work, which has definitely paid off. The congress became a resounding success, and Braham Himed, Lorenzo Lo Monte and Philipp Markiton would like to congratulate in the name of AESS the organizing team and would like to thank them for the invitation to the event.
