Event Summary: Dr. Haigh presented concepts for assuring systems Cognitive Electronic Warfare systems. She briefly described what is a cognitive system, then placed it in the context of Electronic Warfare. A cognitive system is on that perceives the environment, reasons about its goals, and takes actions to accomplish those goals. It is an iterative, interactive, deliberative, transformative system. After this brief introduction, she described approaches for assuring operational behavior, including infrastructure (e.g. closed-loop testing), processes (e.g. iterative design and test), and metrics (e.g. deployability concerns). She gave a comprehensive description of how to prove that the system will work against any set of novel environments.
