Event Summary: Dr. Kumar Vijay Mishra, Senior Fellow at the United States DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory presented two IEEE AESS Distinguished Lectures titled "Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces for Communications and Radars" and "Phase Retrieval for Radar Waveform Design" at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) - Cobb County campus, Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The event was organized by the IEEE AESS Atlanta Section Joint Chapter on 17 July 2023. The first talk focused on applications of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) to radar, wireless communications, and joint radar-communications. In addition, the talk included deep learning-based techniques for RIS inverse design.

The second talk focuses on radar waveform design using recent advances in phase retrieval theory. It considered recovering the radar waveform from the magnitude of the ambiguity function (AF) as well as its fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) formulation.

The talks were followed by a lively and engaging Q&A session between the audience and the speaker. The event lasted for nearly four hours.
