Hagit Messer earned her Ph.D. from Tel Aviv University (TAU), Israel. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University, she joined TAU’s Faculty of Engineering in 1986 and is now Professor Emerita in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Throughout her career, she has held several senior leadership roles, including Chief Scientist at Israel’s Ministry of Science, Vice President for Research at TAU, President of The Open University of Israel, and Vice Chair of Israel’s Council for Higher Education. In 2016, she also co-founded the startup company ClimaCell.

Professor Messer is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and was awarded the 2024 IEEE Medal for Environmental and Safety Technologies for her contributions to environmental sensing through wireless communication networks. She has authored numerous journal and conference publications and has supervised more than 100 graduate students. In addition, she has been an active IEEE volunteer, contributing to the Signal Processing Society’s technical activities and serving on the Board of Governors’ committees.

Beyond her scientific achievements, Professor Messer is strongly engaged in higher education and science policy. She is particularly committed to advancing women in science and technology, fostering technology transfer, and addressing ethical issues in these domains.
