Dr. Jeffrey S. Chavis is a member of Principal Professional Staff at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), serving as the Group Supervisor for the Cyber Capabilities Development group. He leads the development of advanced analytical and applied techniques to enhance mission resilience in cyber systems, focusing on the intersection of innovation and cybersecurity.
Dr. Chavis is the Program Manager for the Electrical and Computer Engineering graduate programs at Johns Hopkins University. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Software Engineering and Information Systems Engineering programs. He is passionate about bridging academic theory with practical, real-world applications in both industry and research.
Dr. Chavis is an active leader in professional communities, serving as Vice Chair of the Baltimore Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and as a Senior Member of IEEE. His was recognized by the Black Engineer of the Year Award (BEYA) for Professional Achievement at the BEYA STEM Global Competitiveness Conference in 2016.
Dr. Chavis holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Howard University, an MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Doctor of Engineering (D.Eng) degree from Johns Hopkins University.
