Dr. Hattis has been at Draper Laboratory since 1974, currently as Laboratory Technical Staff (the Laboratory’s highest technical position). Responsibilities have included Technical Director and Chief Engineer roles for a wide variety of challenging projects including: Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) software and hardware for aerial, launch, and space vehicles; integrated Soldier systems; precision airdrop. This includes research and system development leadership at both the system and component levels including addressing user compatibility and human rating. Dr. Hattis has participated in and/or lead numerous major developmental program and technology portfolio review teams for NASA, the Air Force, other government agencies, and the National Research Council (NRC). He served in national leadership positions in major aerospace professional societies, is a Fellow of the AIAA, and Chairs the Aerospace Control and Guidance Systems Committee that is affiliated with the IEEE. He is a current member of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board.
