Timothy Adejare Ayelagbe is an undergraduate student in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria, where he maintains a first-class academic record. He is originally from Isheri-Osun, Lagos State, Nigeria. His academic interests include medical robotics, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and assistive healthcare technologies, with a focus on developing engineering systems that improve healthcare accessibility and rehabilitation.
Timothy has maintained strong academic performance alongside active involvement in engineering research. He is a recipient of the MTN Foundation Academic Excellence Scholarship and a three-time recipient of the Great Ife Alumni Academic Excellence Award, recognitions given to students with outstanding academic performance at Obafemi Awolowo University. His work has also received international recognition through travel grants from the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) Humanoids Conference and the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) Annual Conference. Although participation in both events was limited due to visa requirements, the awards reflect recognition of his academic and technical development.
Timothy gained research experience during an internship at the Quanser Robotics Laboratory at the Africa Centre of Excellence (ACE Design Studio), Obafemi Awolowo University, where he worked on robotics modelling and control systems related to safe force interaction in robotic mechanisms.
He is currently working on the design of a wearable assistive robotic leg system for individuals affected by stroke or mobility impairments. The system is intended to provide mechanical and control assistance from the waist to the feet to support rehabilitation and help users regain walking ability. The project combines mechanical design, embedded electronics, and control algorithms for assistive mobility systems.
Alongside this work, Timothy is expanding his technical skills in artificial intelligence and machine learning, with interest in applying these methods to robotic perception and control systems. He also participated in the Data Science Nigeria Artificial Intelligence Bootcamp in Lagos, where he received training in practical machine learning techniques and data-driven systems.
Timothy also contributes to robotic standards through IEEE AgeTech Initiative, where he participates in working groups focused on technologies supporting aging populations. These discussions include intelligent home systems, wearable assistive devices, remote health monitoring, and telehealth ecosystems, as well as standards initiatives such as IC24-010: Technology Standards for the Aging (AgeTech) and IEEE P3925™ Standard for Evaluation of Wearable Fall Detection Devices.
In addition to his technical work, Timothy has participated in international policy engagements as a Youth Representative in the European Economic and Social Committee’s EU Youth Test, contributing to discussions on Opinion SOC/822 on the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights. He also serves as a Regional Focal Point for West and Central Africa within the United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth, planning on youth engagement in global platforms including the ECOSOC Youth Forum, High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, and Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) forum.
Timothy intends to continue working in medical robotics, assistive technologies, and intelligent autonomous systems, contributing to engineering solutions that improve healthcare systems and rehabilitation technologies.
