Artificial intelligence is transforming cybersecurity at an unprecedented pace. From AI-powered threat detection and automated incident response to adversarial machine learning and secure autonomous systems, researchers and practitioners are redefining how cyber defense operates in increasingly complex environments. At the same time, AI itself introduces new vulnerabilities, raising critical questions around trust, resilience, explainability, and security.

To advance this timely conversation, IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS) invites submissions for a special issue of IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society Systems Magazine on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Cybersecurity. This special issue will bring together cutting-edge research, emerging applications, and practical insights at the intersection of AI and cyber defense, with a submission deadline of May 15, 2026.

Why This Special Issue Matters

Cybersecurity is no longer just about defending networks and systems. Today’s threat landscape includes AI-driven attacks, autonomous decision-making systems, adversarial manipulation, data poisoning, deepfake-enabled deception, and vulnerabilities across cyber-physical infrastructures. As organizations increasingly rely on intelligent systems for defense, ensuring those systems are secure, trustworthy, and resilient has become a top priority.

This special issue provides a forum for researchers, engineers, and practitioners to share innovations that address both sides of the equation:

  • Using AI to improve cybersecurity outcomes
  • Securing AI systems against cyber threats and adversarial attacks
  • Building trustworthy, explainable, and resilient intelligent systems
  • Exploring cybersecurity applications in aerospace, defense, autonomous systems, and critical infrastructure contexts
Topics of Interest

Contributors are encouraged to submit original work covering a broad range of themes related to AI in cybersecurity, including theoretical advances, practical implementations, and emerging use cases. Topics may include:

  • AI and machine learning for cyber threat detection
  • Adversarial machine learning and attack resilience
  • Explainable and trustworthy AI for security applications
  • AI-driven cyber defense and automated response
  • Secure autonomous and cyber-physical systems
  • Threat intelligence, anomaly detection, and predictive analytics
  • AI risks, vulnerabilities, and governance in security-critical environments
Who Should Submit?

This call is ideal for:

  • Academic researchers advancing AI and cybersecurity theory
  • Industry practitioners deploying AI-based security solutions
  • Engineers working in aerospace, defense, critical infrastructure, and cyber-physical systems
  • Professionals exploring trust, ethics, resilience, and governance in intelligent systems
Submit Your Work

If you are developing research or practical solutions at the intersection of AI and cybersecurity, this is an opportunity to contribute to a growing and highly relevant field through a respected IEEE publication.

Submission deadline has been extended to 1 June 2026.
