German Jordanian University Hosts IEEE AESS Technical Session

The IEEE AESS technical session “Mapping the Grid with Autonomous UAV Intelligence & Digital Twins” was successfully conducted with participation from students and professionals in aerospace, robotics, and geospatial engineering.

The session explored the evolution of UAV systems from conventional aerial imaging platforms into intelligent, autonomous systems integrated with AI-driven digital twin environments. A key focus was the role of digital twins in enabling real-time visualization, simulation, and decision-making for complex infrastructure systems.

Discussions covered multi-source geospatial data fusion, including LiDAR, thermal, and BIM data, and how these inputs are integrated into unified digital twin frameworks. The session also highlighted AI-based anomaly detection and autonomous inspection workflows for critical infrastructure such as power grids, substations, and telecommunication networks.

Overall, the event emphasized how UAV intelligence combined with digital twin technology is enabling scalable, data-driven infrastructure monitoring and predictive maintenance.
