Distinguished Lecturer: Jian Li

Host: Fudan University

Event Date: 8 May 2023

Event Format: In-Person

Event Summary:  Dr. Jian Li gave an enlightening presentation detailing the development of array signal processing over the last century. She began by discussing the origins of array signal processing, harking back to 1905 when Karl Braun demonstrated how to arrange three antennas to transmit a signal coherently. Dr. Li then went on to introduce the Capon method, which started the adaptive array signal processing revolution. However, the Capon method is not always very robust, especially when the steering vector is imprecise, the signal is correlated, or there are only a small number of snapshots available.

To overcome these limitations, Dr. Li proposed the Iterative Adaptive Approach (IAA). By iteratively updating the covariance matrix, IAA can provide great performance in many challenging scenarios. The audience was attentive and engaged during the interactive presentation. Several questions were raised and answered during the Q&A session. The presentation started at 10:00 a.m. and ended at around 11:30 a.m. in Fudan University.
