Event Summary:
I was invited to visit Australia by the joint invitation of three ASEE chapters of Australia: Australia Capital Territory (ACT), Queensland and Western Australia. Dr. Lily Qiao, Chair of the AESS Chapter of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) was the overall coordinator of my visit. As part of my visit, I give a keynote lecture during the annual Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Conference held at UNSW Canberra from November 19-21, 2024. In addition to the keynote lecture at the SDA conference, I also gave a hybrid talk for the ASEE members who could not attend the SDA conference. Both of these talks were on the topic of Accurate Tracking of Resident Space Objects. I left for Australia on 16th November and reached Canberra on 18th November after spending more than 30 hours in flights + layovers. I had dinner with officers and members of the AESS ACT chapter on 18th evening. As part of the conference, I also got a chance to visit Australia National Press Club in Canberra for dinner on the evening of 19th November. There were approximately 100 attendees in the conference to listen to my lecture and around 20 attendees (5 in room and additional 15 online) for my second lecture only for AESS members.
As part of this trip, I also visited AESS Chapters in Queensland and Western Australia. I flew to Brisbane from Canberra on the evening of November 20. I met with Dr. Jason Williams (AESS-Queensland) at the University of Queensland on November 21st afternoon and gave a lecture there in the evening of November 21st. There was a meet and greet reception with lecture attendees with light snacks and food after the lecture. I flew to Adelaide on the morning of November 22nd from Brisbane and gave a lecture at the University of Adelaide on the evening of November 22nd followed by the dinner with AESS officers of Western Australia chapter. I flew to Sydney on the morning of November 23rd to fly back to home on November 26th after spending sometime in Sydney.
