Algeria Section Chapter Hosts AESS-Naama Scientific Workshop
The AESS Algeria Section Chatper is composed mostly of university researchers and students (Graduate and Undergraduates). Our research is focused on robotics, electronics, mathematical modeling, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Guidance, Navigation and Control, Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, and Real-Time Systems. Our activities, performed by our students under the mentorship and guidance of our professors, include the development of small unmanned platforms and software frameworks for testing flight stability, guidance, navigation, and control algorithms.
The workshop was conducted as an in-person meeting, but also included two (2) virtual contribution from speakers from MIT (USA) and Canada. The workshop started with welcoming remarks by Professor Haib Safi, Rector of Naama University, who welcomed all attendees, and stressed the importance of the event and encourages students at different levels to get involved in IEEE and AESS, in order to build strong national and international scientific relationships, and increase the university visibility through research and scientific breakthroughs. He concluded his remarks by thanking the AESS staff for their valuable contribution to the success of the event. The second talk was given by Dr. Khaled Toumi, Director of the Institute of Technology, in which he welcomed the audience, and especially the AESS staff. Dr. Khaled outlined the workshop schedule, and the importance of including students in scientific activities and volunteering, with the focus of joining the IEEE-AESS community. The next talk was given by Dr. Mohamed Della Krachai, Algeria AESS Chapter Chair, who discussed AESS’ activities, and explained in great details the benefits of joining AESS, including publishing, conferences, forming student branch chapters, among others. The speech was concluded by giving contacts and links of AESS pages so that students, teachers, and attendees can consult for additional information. A student competition was also organized in this workshop and involved undergraduates, graduates as well as doctorate students. The prototypes were designed in order to disseminate AESS culture and align students with our vision and perspectives. The students showcased their designed prototype systems, which included small scale wheeled robot intended to navigate autonomously in an unknown environment using sensors fusion algorithms as well as advanced control strategies. Another project, designed around solar panels, to provide continuously optimal power for onboard computers of embedded systems. The meeting concluded with an award ceremony that recognized the winners for first, second, and third place. Several students indicated that they join AESS soon, and form a student branch chapter at the university.
