AstroCode Competition: Empowering Students in Aerospace Innovation at Amman Arab University

The Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS) at Amman Arab University (AAU) has wrapped up another landmark event with the successful conclusion of “AstroCode: Explore. Code. Launch.” This exciting competition was designed to immerse students in real-world space challenges, spark creativity, and deepen their engagement with emerging technologies shaping the future of aerospace.

Held under the patronage of Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Widyan, President of AAU, the event was organized by the IEEE Student Branch in collaboration with AESS, drawing more than 100 students from across disciplines. Forming 15 innovative teams, participants tackled complex problems in space exploration, engineering design, and modern technology applications.

A Launchpad for Learning and Inspiration

The competition opened with a thought-provoking panel discussion titled “Space Advancement in the Era of Modern Technology.” Expert speakers brought a wealth of industry and academic experience to the conversation:

  • Dr. Ahmad Al-Husban, Head of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Department, AAU
  • Dr. Ammar Sakaji, President of the Jordanian Astronomical Society
  • Dr. Hanna Sabbat, Director of Scientific Affairs and Training, RCSSTEWA

Their insights helped students better understand the rapidly evolving space sector and its influence across modern industries. Energized by these discussions, teams moved directly into developing and presenting their projects, which were evaluated by multidisciplinary committees to ensure fairness, depth, and innovation.

  • Creativity Award (IEEE Jordan Section): TechNest and Zero Gravity
  • First Place: Turbines
  • Second Place: Astranova
  • Third Place: Orbital Vision

Mohamad Abu Amsha, Chairman of AESS AAU, praised the students’ outstanding performance and reaffirmed the society’s commitment to fostering creativity and preparing students for global competitiveness. Dr. Lial Al-Zabin, Head of the Judging Committee, expressed appreciation for the dedication and expertise of the faculty panel that evaluated the projects.
