IEEE Glasgow: Engineering Innovation Showcase – Bringing Together Researchers and Innovators
The IEEE UK and Ireland Section, in cooperation with its Chapters and Affinity Groups in and around Glasgow, successfully hosted the Engineering Innovation Showcase on Friday, 7 November, from 09:00 to 13:00 at the James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow.
The event highlighted the vibrant landscape of engineering research and innovation in the Glasgow region, with a particular focus on engaging students and early career researchers. By bringing together experts from academia, industry, and spin-out ventures, the showcase presented cutting-edge research and explored its practical, real-world impact.
A key goal of the showcase was to raise awareness of the local presence and activities of IEEE Chapters, encouraging student involvement and fostering collaboration across disciplines. The event facilitated networking and knowledge exchange, helping participants identify shared interests, explore potential partnerships, and inspire interdisciplinary collaboration.
Representatives from multiple IEEE Chapters and Affinity Groups attended, including the Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control Chapter, Aerospace and Electronic Systems Chapter, Women in Engineering AG, Young Professionals AG, Control Systems Chapter, Electron Devices Chapter, Communications Chapter, Oceanic Engineering Society Chapter, Antennas and Propagation & Microwave Theory and Technology Joint Chapter, and Signal Processing Chapter.
The program featured distinguished speakers from academia and industry. Highlights included Paul M Cunningham, Chair of the IEEE UK and Ireland Section, who introduced IEEE and local Section activities. Dr Lina Mohjazi and Dr Gilles Baillet from the University of Glasgow, Dr Ibrahim Beklan Kucukdemiral from Glasgow Caledonian University, Siming Zuo, Technology Innovation Manager at Neuranics, and Prof Gordon Dobie from the University of Strathclyde also shared insights into their research and innovation initiatives.
Open to both IEEE and non-IEEE members, the showcase offered participants the opportunity to learn about ongoing research, engage with innovators, and explore potential collaborations.
The IEEE Glasgow: Engineering Innovation Showcase successfully connected the region’s engineering community, celebrated innovation, and inspired the next generation of researchers and professionals.
