Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish the award co-Chairs from two Editors of IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems.
  • Oversee and ensure that the award committee formed by the two co-Chairs complies with the TABARC Manual and IEEE Awards Policies and Procedures.
  • Oversee and ensure that the Co-Chairs solicit nominations from papers published in IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems in a calendar year four years before the award year (for example, the Carlton Award made in 2020 was for a paper published in 2016).
  • Oversee and ensure that the Co-Chairs monitor nominations and recommend award recipients while ensuring no conflicts of interest with nominees or letters of recommendation.
  • Notify nominators of any identified conflicts as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with the guidelines outlined in the TABARC Manual and IEEE Awards Policies and Procedures.
  • Send notification letters to award recipients.
  • Organize journal staff to inform recipients of award ceremony details.
  • Request nomination deadline extensions as needed.
  • Inform the VP Awards and VP Publications of the final committee decision.
  • Oversee and ensure that the Co-Chairs submit the AESS Award Selection Summary webform.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to liaise with IEEE Technical Activities Support Staff to complete the required paperwork for honorarium fulfillment and to order the award recognition product.
