Sarana is an undergraduate electrical engineering student at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. She is on the Dean’s List with a 3.65 GPA and expects to graduate in May 2021. Sarana participates in the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Science Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program. This program is a concentrated effort to enhance the DoD workforce with talented, innovative, and brilliant scientists, engineers, and researchers. Sarana spent last summer as an engineering intern studying communications security at Lackland AFB, Texas. Upon graduation, Sarana will begin working in a civilian position in the U.S. Air Force.
Sarana’s extracurricular activities include swimming and martial arts. Since 2010, she has participated in swimming competitions and is a swim coach/instructor and lifeguard during the summer. She studies at Dragon Martial Arts and holds a black belt in Wing Chung Kung Fu. She is active in the Chinese American Citizens Alliance and serves as a volunteer at the Texas Folklife Festival. Sarana is a member of the St. Mary’s University IEEE Student Branch and was nominated to serve as AESS Undergraduate Student Representative by Faculty Advisor, Dr. Wenbin Luo.
