Event Date:  4 May 2026

Event Format: In-Person Presentation

Event Summary: This invited talk explores the transformative paradigm of Reconfigurable Integrated Sensing and Communications (RIS-aided ISAC), highlighting its potential to fundamentally reshape next-generation wireless networks. As the demand for ubiquitous connectivity and high-resolution sensing converges, traditional static network architectures prove insufficient. The integration of Reconfigurable Sparse Arrays (RSA) into ISAC systems offers a novel solution by enabling dynamic control over the wireless propagation environment.

The presentation delves into the core principles of RSA, steering beams, enhancing signal quality, and suppressing interference for both communication users and radar sensing tasks. By intelligently coordinating these DoFs, RISAC systems can achieve a "dual-functional" waveform design, simultaneously optimizing sensing accuracy (e.g., target detection, localization) and communication efficiency (e.g., spectral efficiency, coverage extension).

Key challenges discussed include the joint optimization of active and passive beamforming, the acquisition of accurate channel state information (CSI) in dynamic environments, and the hardware constraints of practical implementations. The talk concludes by outlining future research directions, emphasizing that reconfigurable technologies are pivotal for realizing low-latency, energy-efficient, and highly reliable integrated systems for applications such as autonomous vehicles, smart cities, and industrial IoT.
