On March 24, 2026, the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS) Italy Chapter gathered in Rome to celebrate the next generation of innovators in aerospace and electronic systems. The occasion marked the official presentation of the 2025 Best PhD and Master Theses Awards, an event dedicated to recognizing academic achievement, research excellence, and future leaders in the field.

Each year, these awards highlight theses that demonstrate technical depth and real-world impact. This year’s recipients were selected through a rigorous evaluation process led by two committees composed of Professors Gaetano Giunta, Francesco Lamonaca, Diego Reale, Claudio Sacchi, Francesco Bandiera, and Martina Pastorino.

Honoring Outstanding PhD Research

The 2025 Best PhD Thesis Awards were presented to three scholars whose work stood out among a strong pool of candidates:

  • Bernardo Camajori Tedeschini (Politecnico di Milano)
  • Matteo Ciotola (Università Federico II di Napoli)
  • Laura Crosara (Università di Padova)

Each of these researchers has contributed meaningful advancements to their areas of study, reflecting innovation and a commitment to expanding knowledge.

Recognizing Excellence at the Master’s Level

The AESS Italy Chapter also recognized Master’s theses, awarding honors to:

  • Giulia Buttitta (Università di Pisa)
  • Pietro Di Stasio (Università del Sannio)
  • Francesco Fiorina (Politecnico di Torino)

These students demonstrated strong potential early in their careers through creativity, technical rigor, and clear direction in their work.

A Celebration of Community and Achievement

The ceremony was led by the IEEE AESS Italy Chapter Chair, Professor Silvia Liberata Ullo, whose leadership supports a collaborative academic community across Italy.

Award recipients received certificates and a selection of books, recognizing their achievements and encouraging continued learning and discovery.

Looking Ahead

Events like this highlight the role that young researchers play in shaping the future of aerospace and electronic systems. By recognizing and supporting emerging talent, the IEEE AESS Italy Chapter invests in innovation, excellence, and the advancement of technology.

Congratulations to all the 2025 award winners on this recognition. Their work reflects the strength and promise of the next generation of researchers.
